An immense hourglass lies over the center of
North America. Its top half stretches up and
across the Arctic tundra wilderness from Hudson
Bay to eastern Siberia, as its bottom half reaches
from the humid Texas Gulf Coast west to the arid
desert lands of northern Mexico.
